Hints & Tips

Taking your four legged friend on board with you does not need to be a problem. Just remember the following and try to make the boat trip as comfortable, enjoyable and most importantly as safe as is possible.

  • Always have plenty of water and dog food on board, especially during the summer months.
  • Start off by going out on short trips or by simply putting the dog on board, but not actually travelling across water. Build up to longer trips so that your dog gets used to the motion of travelling on water. Not all dogs will suit being on the water.
  • Purchase a dog life jacket even if your dog can swim. Currents can be strong and often unpredictable so using a dog life jacket will assist in the safety of your dog should anything go wrong.
  • Do not take your dog on board if it is showing signs of illness prior to the journey.
