Women trapped in tent after branch collapses
One family may have to claim on their camping insurance after part of a tree fell on their tent in the early hours of Sunday (June 5th) morning.
Crew commander Simon Halling, of Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service, told the Ledbury Reporter, the four individuals had a lucky escape after the 100-year-old branch landed on their sleeping quarters.
The mother was trapped under the log, which came from a tree thought to weigh between two and three tonnes, while the father and two sons managed to flee.
Mr Halling said: “There was a lot of foliage and it flattened the tent out – you couldn’t make out that it was a tent when we got there. It could easily have been a fatality.”
The incident occurred just before 05:00 BST at the Rock Caravan Park in Bromyard.
Most councils aim to remove any branches that show signs of decay or damage as they can be dangerous to the public.
