Scouts launch yacht club fundraising campaign
A group of scouts from Cleethorpes are hoping to raise £30,000 to fund training at a local yacht club.
The Grimsby Telegraph reports how the 1st Cleethorpes Sea Scouts rely solely on donations and need the money to ensure their 90 members can continue to practice kayaking, sailing and power boating.
Beaver leader Paula Kitchen said: "It is all thanks to the parents. We are the only sea scouts in the area and we are recognised and accredited by the Royal Navy."
Some of the money raised may go towards kayak insurance policies, as well as paying for use of the facilities at Grimsby and Cleethorpes Yacht Club on Grimsby Docks.
Members are given the chance to learn skills such as swimming, first aid, nautical and meteorological skills.
The yacht club is recognised as a training centre for dinghy and shorebased courses and has 50 berths that are available to members.
