Police issue warning after Newton Aycliffe bike theft

Police in the north-east of England have told cyclists to be on alert after the theft of a high value bike in Newton Aycliffe.

An Identiti Dr Jekyll jump bike was stolen overnight on Wednesday (February 19th) from the conservatory of a property at Hambleton Court in Newton Aycliffe.

Detective Constable Anne Wraith, of Newton Aycliffe serious crime team, told the Northern Echo that the cycle is likely to be "of interest to a specialist rider or a specialist cycle shop".

As well as the theft of the Identiti Dr Jekyll jump bike, a £2,300 battery-powered Cube hybrid pro-reaction carbon-framed racing model and a Focus Cayo Evo Dura Ace road bike with a black carbon frame were taken from a garage attached to a house at Hunters Green in Newton Aycliffe between 23:00 GMT on February 12th and 15:00 GMT the following day.

Investing in a high quality D-lock for their bike is a key protection measure for a lot of cyclists, who should also ensure they have insurance for their cycles so they can make a claim in the event of becoming a victim of a theft.
