Organ builder celebrates 50 years in business
One man who may have taken out numerous musical instrument insurance policies over the years is organ builder Rodney Briscoe.
The talented craftsmen began learning the trade at the age of 14 and is now celebrating 50 years in the business, the Diss Express reports.
“I’m still passionate about what I do and it has been an honour to work in some of the country and East Anglia’s most beautiful buildings,” he stated, adding that he has no intention of quitting anytime soon.
Mr Briscoe cannot play the organ himself, but has helped bring joy to many who can, by creating the instruments and repairing existing models.
The 64-year-old explained how his company maintains around 350 organs, with many based in churches, but some owned by private clients.
In order to fully repair one of the models, Mr Briscoe claimed he sometimes has to set two to three months aside.
Truro Cathedral is known for having three organs, with its Father Willis instrument dating from 1887 said to be one of the finest examples in the UK.
