Narrowboat destroyed in fire
News of a mysterious fire that destroyed a narrowboat may encourage individuals to invest in boat insurance so their own asset is covered.
An investigation has been launched into the incident, which saw firefighters spend more than two hours battling the blaze on the Trent and Mersey Canal in Longport, the Sentinel reports.
Watch manager Nigel Stockton said: "The majority of the narrowboat had burnt down to the water line by the time we had extinguished the fire and the rest of it sunk."
There were no casualties despite the incident, with a rescue crew searching the surrounding water to check no-one had fallen overboard.
Another narrowboat moored nearby was also damaged in the incident after the blazing craft drifted along the canal and rested against it.
Elsewhere, a boat moored in Dartside Boat Park in Galmpton was also recently destroyed by a fire that is believed to have been an accident.
