Man charged with camera thefts
A 58-year-old man has been charged with the theft of various items of camera equipment worth a total of thousands of pounds.
Michael Purtill, 58, of Kirkham Street, London, was charged on August 24th with a variety of thefts from high-street stores dating back to November 2012.
The first of the thefts is alleged to have taken place at Park Cameras, in Burgess Hill, West Sussex on November 19th, when £5,000 worth of equipment went missing, reports Amateur Photographer.
Purtill is also suspected of stealing a camera and lens, worth £5,145, from Red Dot Cameras in London, as well as taking a £449.95 lens from the Peter Jones department store in Sloane Square.
The 58-year-old appeared at Bromley Magistrates' Court last month and indicated a guilty plea.
Police in North Yorkshire recently launched an investigation after the theft of a camera from a car at the Mere, Mere Lane, between 18:15 BST and 18:45 BST on August 21st.
An Olympus digital camera and a bag containing children's swimwear were taken.
