Love On The Front Line
An army handler and a sniper who met and feel in love in Afkhanistan got married this week end.
L/Cpl Anna Harris, 23, and Cpl Mark Ingram, 29, met three years ago when they were deployed in Lashkar Gah the capital of Helmand province in 2007. As the couple worked together, they got to know each other and fell in love. When Cpl Ingram’s vehicle was attacked in an ambush, L/Cpl Harris was forced to listen to the immediate aftermath of the gunfight over the radio until she heard with relief that he was safe.
Cpl Ingram said: “I’m really happy. I didn’t think anything good could come out of Afghanistan but something special happened when we met.” “I was doing armed explosive searches with my black Labrador, Sparky.Mark, a sniper, had to teach me what to do if we got shot at or blown up. He said I first came across as a bit stand-offish. I didn’t notice him for a month or so – you are so focused on the job. But when I relaxed a bit we started chatting.â€
L/Cpl Harris, from Basildon, said: “If we can go through what we went through we can get through anything together.”
Cpl Ingram proposed on a trip to Lapland and they married at a 15th century manor house in Pitsea, Essex, on Saturday, before heading to Jamaica for their honeymoon.
