Kayakers plan to paddle 230 miles for charity

Eight friends are attempting to kayak 230 miles in four days to raise money for charity.

Dan Mooney, Adam French, Andy Coleman, Jamie Green, Matt Coleman, Matt Boreham, Matt Whale and Philip Cole will attempt to travel from Bristol to Bishop's Stortford to generate funds for Witham-based organisation Brainwave, Dunmow Broadcast 24 reports.

The centre helps children who have delayed development, a genetic condition or who have suffered brain damage and cares for those aged between six months and 12 years.

Mr Whale's goddaughter is a patient at Brainwave and the group recently visited the site to see the work being done.

The team wants to raise £10,000 for the cause and are well into their training, as the challenge will begin in just over a month.

They have also purchased a new kayak for the task and will no doubt have taken out kayak insurance to protect the important vessel.

Mr Whale said: "Things are coming together and it looks as though we are going to have a lot of support along the route which will help us."
