Halfords workers to cycle with sporting celebrities
Two men from Redditch will cycle across Europe this summer with Freddy Flintoff and Lawrence Dallaglio in the name of charity.
Halfords workers Robert Newrick and Steve Tarling are said by the Redditch Standard to be relishing what the latter described as a "once in a lifetime opportunity".
Former England cricket star and Ashes hero Flintoff and ex-England rugby union captain Dallaglio will join the duo for parts of the ride between Athens and London. The 1,784-mile route has been specially chosen as they will begin at the site of the ancient Olympics and end at stadium hosting this year's Games.
"It's such a unique experience, it almost feels surreal," said Mr Tarling.
The pair will need to prepare thoroughly for the event and may consider investing in cycle insurance in case their bikes are damaged during the ride.
Dallaglio and Flintoff's charity challenge has attracted such attention that even prime minister David Cameron has added his good wishes, saying the money raised will go to two very good causes.
The charities in question are Cancer Research UK and Great Ormond Street Hospital, with the riders aiming to collect more than £2 million.
