Gang lose appeal against caravan theft sentences
Caravan insurance customers may be pleased to hear appeals by a gang of jailed thieves have failed.
The four men were sentenced after a spate of robberies, which saw caravans stolen and property removed, the Reading Evening Post reports.
Police recovered £600,000 worth of vehicles and contents to the value of more than £300,000.
It is believed the group were responsible for almost half the caravan thefts in the UK and as such Lord Justice Aikens stated that they deserved their time in prison.
He explained that the incidents had caused a great amount of distress to those involved.
“There is much more to these thefts than there ever would be when there is a theft of money,” Lord Aikens commented.
According to the publication there was a 50 per cent reduction in caravan insurance claims following the arrest of the gang.
Motorhomes were stolen from driveways and service stations by the thieves, who were caught after a police raid.
