Heroic dog saves pensioner
A police dog called Tach, a German Shepherd, has been hailed a hero for finding a 80 year old missing man in fields near Newtownbutler. The frail elderly man had fallen into a ditch and brambles had covered him up so that he was not visible to the naked eye. Helicopters and officers had been looking for the man for several hours without any success.
That is when Tach was called in to assist the team. Chief Inspector Graham Dodds said the dog had saved the pensioner’s life as he had been alert to his senses and located the hidden man. The man, who had Alzheimer’s disease, was suffering from mild hypothermia when he was found at midnight last Friday.
