£200,000 grant awarded to cycle scheme

A new cycle scheme which has been launched in Lincolnshire has received a massive boost in the form of £200,000. The Choose Active travel, Choose Health (CATCH) scheme is hoping to raise awareness of the benefits of walking and cycling. The scheme is targeting more than 40 schools and communities and will help to buy them new walking and cycling facilities. Examples of such facilities are, bike sheds, cycle storage or shelters for pedestrians.

The scheme is underpinned by the need for people to get fit and active, as national obesity levels are still on the rise. It is also very important for individuals to realise the impact they individually have on the environment. Not only are they changing by having a healthier lifestyle but also reflecting on how this healthier lifestyle is having a positive impact on the environment.

CATCH are sending out this important message to the people of the future; our school children.

Chris Briggs, Head of Accessibility and Policy said “with the county council and NHS Lincolnshire working together, we can encourage more children and adults to be physically active and healthier, as well as helping our local environment and promoting sustainable transport. Over 95% of schools in Lincolnshire now have a school travel plan. This funding will allow these schools to put their plans into practice and give children the best start for a healthy and sustainable future.”

Why don’t you leave your car at home and join CATCH in promoting the importance of healthy living and being environmentally healthy? Get back aboard, cycle to work, to a friends house or even go for a bike ride and explore the British countryside.
