Celebrities attend canal boat charity building opening
A host of famous faces helped open a new building dedicated to a charity that organises activities such as boating for youngsters with disabilities.
Prunella Scales and Timothy West were among the celebrities in attendance at the event hosted by ReachOut Plus, the Watford Observer reports.
The charity may have invested in narrow boat insurance as it often arranges for special needs teenagers and disadvantaged individuals to cruise the Grand Union Canal.
Ron Overton, the charity’s director, described how the organisation provides Enable holidays that allow youngsters to spend a week on wide-beam canal boats.
“They are especially kitted out to cater for use by people with disabilities, which is quite unusual.
“We also offer these trips to local community groups and private hire of the boats,” he stated.
West has presented a number of programmes focused on the waterways, while Scales is perhaps best known for playing Basil Fawlty’s wife Sybil in the comedy series Fawlty Towers.
