CCTV images released of suspected camera thieves

Police have released CCTV images of a man and a women they want to speak to in connection with a recent camera theft.

Chelmsford officers are trying to trace the couple, who entered Asda in Chelmer Village on August 17th just after 16:45 BST.

According to a report by the Yellow Advertiser, although they paid for several small items at a self-service till before leaving, they also made off with two digital cameras.

Investigating officer PC Sam Benfield said: "We are appealing to witnesses to the theft as well as friends, family or work colleagues to come forward with a name."

Anyone who believes that they have any information in connection with the theft has been urged to contact investigating officers at Chelmsford Police station on 101.

This incident comes only a short time after Michael Purtill, 58, of Kirkham Street, London, was charged with the theft of various items of camera equipment worth a total of thousands of pounds. He appeared at Bromley Magistrates' Court last month and indicated a guilty plea.
