Future of the Southampton Boat Show Secured
The Associated British Ports (ABP) have negotiated a deal with council chiefs to keep the prestigious show in Southampton for many years to come. Southampton will be delighted to confirm this as it was feared that the boat show could be relocated to nearby Portsmouth.
Obviously this is a big boost to Southampton city as the Boat Show brings many tourists eating, drinking, sleeping therefore considerably boosting the local economy. Cabinet member for economic development Councillor Royston Smith said, The Southampton Boat Show has been one of the city’s great success stories.
By entering into a new agreement with the port for berth 101 we are confirming our ongoing commitment to the operators of the Boat Show, who for over 40 years have made the Southampton Boat Show one of the best in Europe.” It was feared that Southampton port would not be able to provide the additional space, berth 101 provides and this was the reason for the suggested move to Portsmouth.
The PSP Southampton Boat Show will be from September 12th-21st 2009. There will be in excess of 100 boats, with around 375 berthed on the water in the largest purpose-built temporary marina in the world. There are over 122,000 visitors expected to attend.
