Bike theft investigation launched in Somerset

Police officers in Somerset are asking for members of the public to help with an investigation into a bike theft in the county.

They believe a white van with lettering on the side is linked with the theft of a yellow mountain bike and an aluminium sink from a property in Welton Road, Randstock, between 16:00 and 16:40 GMT on March 18th.

Geoff Cannon from Radstock police station told the Somerset Guardian it is thought the stolen items were loaded into a white high-sided van with MK Fruits written in green on the side.

He said: "If anyone saw this van or has any other information that may help trace the offenders, we encourage them to contact us on the Avon and Somerset Police non-emergency number 101."

Earlier in the month, the British Security Industry Association launched a new guide designed to help cyclists to avoid becoming a victim of bike theft.

The National Crime Survey revealed there were over 500,000 incidents of cycle theft in 2010/11.
