Battersea residents become the faces on new stamps
Battersea Dog and Cat home is the oldest and most famous home for dogs and cats and is situated in the Battersea area of London. To mark the 150th Anniversary of Battersea, the Royal Mail launched a range of first class stamps. All the animals are former Battersea residents and are all now re-homed and living happily with families of their own. However, their start to life did not start off as well. They were once amongst the 12,000 animals that the charity takes in each year. The home stays true to its simple message ‘we aim never to turn away a dog or cat in need of our help.’
Julietta Edgar, Head of Special Stamps at the Royal Mail said “Stamps featuring animals have always been extremely popular with collectors and non-collectors alike and I think these wonderfully charming and expressive images are a great way to mark the achievements of Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.”
Howard Bridges, Chief Executive of Battersea Dogs and Cats Home said “Everyone at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home is thrilled that the final images truly capture the character of the animals chosen.”
There are ten different stamps available each having a different picture on them. Look out for them as they will be available soon in Post Offices!
