Appeal for donations for boat restoration issued
One individual who may require a boat insurance policy is Jim Sanderson, as he is currently working on restoring a Victorian passenger boat to its former glory.
The 75 ft steam-powered vessel, named Belle, was built in 1894 and is currently being fitted out in period decor with the aim of having her take to York’s waterways as a venue for weddings, murder mystery parties and corporate events, the York Press reports.
Mr Sanderson purchased the boat for £320,000 and has spent an extra £80,000 on the renovations, but is now facing a cash shortfall as he looks to complete the finishing touches.
Therefore, he has put out a call to any members of the public who wish to help with fundraising and is offering advertising space on the vessel for sale.
“She looks beautiful now,” Mr Sanderson told the newspaper, adding: “It really is going to bring the Victorian age back to York – a city famous for the Romans and Vikings.”
Elsewhere, it has been reported this week how residents at a Salvation Army centre in Devonport have also been working to restore a vessel to its original condition.
