Angling licence crackdown launched in Bedfordshire
Anglers may want to ensure they not only have a valid fishing insurance policy, but also a licence to fish before heading out this summer.
The Bedford Times and Citizen reports how Environment Agency Fisheries enforcement officers will be cracking down on illegal angling on the Bedfordshire waterways.
Those spotted taking advantage of the nice weather to enjoy a spot of fishing will have to provide proof of their right to take part in the pastime.
Spokesperson for the Environment Agency Lesley Robertson said: "Environment Agency fisheries enforcement officers will be patrolling waters in Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and West Norfolk and anyone found fishing illegally may face prosecution and a hefty fine."
A similar scheme was carried out in June, which saw 510 licences checked and 21 illegal anglers caught out.
Angling insurance helps to ensure those with expensive fishing equipment have their belongings covered in the event of theft or damage.
