Anglers warned about fishing in River Nene
People are being warned that it is illegal to fish in the River Nene until June 15th, news which may interest those looking for angling insurance.
The Peterborough Evening Telegraph reports how there have been sightings of individuals trying to catch fish off the banks of the waterway.
However, it’s currently against the law to carry out such activities in the Nene as it is breeding season and rules have been put in place to protect the marine life.
“We have had reports of illegal fishing activity since the beginning of the closed season and will always try to attend where possible,” Regan Harris, regional communications officer for the Environment Agency, said.
He added that it is “important” that people know the rules as fish need to be left to spawn undisturbed.
Elsewhere, the Environment Agency recently reported it has fined an east Devon businessman £4,040 for setting an illegal net off the coast near Sidmouth.
