- It's a sad fact but students are high risk targets. Many suffer from some form of crime during their time at University or College. Research suggests that 1 in 4 students will be a victim. With students owning on average £3000 worth of possessions many could not afford to replace these items if they suffered from a burglary.
- Where are my belongings insured?
- Your belongings are insured whilst they are at: (a) your term-time address, (b) your parents' home(s) and in direct transit to and from home during the holidays
- What is the claims excess?
- Excess is the amount you pay towards a claim and is normally 1.5% of the sum insured value for claims under all sections. For those people living in Area codes D & E and worldwide claims the excess amount is doubled.
- How much cover do I need?
- Many students underestimate the value of goods they have taken away to university. When choosing the level of cover, remember to include the value of: Hi-Fi systems, portable music players TV/Video/DVD Camera Computer equipment Games consoles Domestic appliances such as kettles and toasters CD's, Videos and DVD's Clothes, shoes and other personal items such as jewellery.
- Who can apply for cover?
- Full -time students studying at college or university in the UK.
- Can I arrange cover in advance?
- Cover can be arranged up to 90 days in advance.
- Do I need to fit locks to my room?
- No, you don't need to fit any additional security. However, you have a 'duty of care' to take all reasonable steps to prevent accidents, loss and damage.
- Can I arrange cover if I share a room with my girlfriend?
- No. We do not insure rooms, in which couples are co-habiting. (Living together).
- What is the single item limit?
- The single item limit is 25% of the sum insured.
- What is the maximum sum insured?
- We insure between £2500 and £8000.
- What information do I need to take a policy out?
- List of all equipment valued over £150. Any all risk items at any value.
- Can you cover my room mate?
- We can only cover the named individual in the policy schedule. This does not include people sharing rooms.
- Are there any discounts offered?
- Discounts are offered for students residing in halls.
- Are there any types of possessions that you cannot cover?
- Unfortunately we cannot offer cover for mobile phones and white goods.
- Why do I need insurance?
- It's a sad fact but students are high risk targets. Many suffer from some form of crime during their time at University or College. Research suggests that one third of students (Source: The Home Office) will be a victim. With students owning on average £4000 (Source: NUS) worth of possessions many could not afford to replace these items if they suffered from a burglary.
Home Office figures reveal 11.8% of students in private accommodation experienced domestic burglary. The Home Office states that the average total replacement cost of property stolen is over £400; a figure many students would struggle to find to replace items stolen.
Some people believe their parents home insurance will cover their belongings whilst they are away, however, in most instances the limitations and exclusions placed on these policies mean they do not provide adequate cover.
- Where are my belongings insured?
- Your belongings are insured while they are at: (a) your term-time address, (b) your parents' home(s) and in direct transit to and from home during the holidays. An optional extension to cover any belongings you leave at university during the holidays is available for a minimal extra cost.
- Are there any claim excesses?
- Excess is the amount you pay towards a claim and is normally £49 for all sections except Public Liability where it is £250. For those people living in Area codes D & E and worldwide claims the excess amount is doubled.
- How much cover do I need?
- Many students underestimate the value of the things they have taken away to university with them. When choosing the level of cover remember to include the value of:

According to figures from the Home Office 131,000 bicycles were reported stolen in the UK in 2004 and around 35,000 cyclists were involved in accidents. As many students own Bicycles as a way and means of getting around we offer additional optional cover for these Bicycles up to the value of £500.
Unfortunately we cannot provide cover for mobile telephones.
