The American Pet Insurance company, Veterinary Pet Insurance have just named the top ten weirdest pet insurance claims. The insurance company have named the competition, The Hambone Award. The competition is named after one of their previous canine friends after he became stuck in a fridge and proceeded to consume all of the Thanksgiving dinner – a big ham joint!
The finalists of the Hambone Award are below:
(1) Rider – A German Shepherd dog that chased a squirrel so fast that he was unable to stop when the squirrel disappeared up a tree. Rider ended up hitting a decorative wheelbarrow head-first!
(2) Toby – A Spaniel managed to slip a round bone over his lower jaw…he then needed anaesthetic and a hacksaw to be able to remove it!
(3) Becca – A Labrador Retriever somehow managed to ingest the same sock twice
(4) Crawford – A Brittany Spaniel ate his owners bra – the only problem being that the gel insert pads proved to be mildly toxic
(5) Sugar – A Jack Russell Terrier tried to consume a whole turtle – including the shell – the vet had to remove turtle shell from her nasal cavity
(6) Lulu – An English Bulldog was caught eating a child’s dummy. When she went to the vets, an x-ray revealed she was a repeat offender and had eaten 15 dummies in the past!
(7) Quincy – A Labrador Retriever was being particularly nosy and stuck her nose into a bucket full of fishing bait. He reappeared with a three-pronged fish hook.
(8) Ranger – A Border Collie from Arizona was out with her owner practicing her cattle herding techniques when she ploughed straight into the back legs of one of the cows
(9) Scooter – A Siamese cat from California was undergoing an MRI scan and therefore in the vets surgery. A vet tech soon realised the culprit of her illness was a needle and thread being attached to the cat’s tongue which was piercing a piece of her brain
(10) Marley – A Labrador Retriever from Florida ran to fetch a poisonous sea urchin which her owner was trying to clear off the beach
Please note that all the above cases have all recovered with no lasting injuries!
