Alan Pratt, a 46 year old man is riding around the UK on his sixteen year old motorbike. He is aiming to cover 1880 miles in order to raise money for the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund at the Leeds General Infirmary. Sharon Cheng from the charity said “we are thrilled Alan is undertaking such an amazing journey in aid of Children’s Heart Surgery Fund.”

The charity saved his daughter’s life when she had to undergo major heart surgery when she was only a few days old. Alan explains, “our daughter Lois was born on Christmas Day 1998 at the Leeds General Infirmary. By New Year she has already undergone major heart surgery without which she would not have survived. Lois suffers from a condition called Di George Syndrome which almost always presents heart problems.”

Alan aims to ride the 1,880 miles in four days driving from Sutton to John O’Groats in the North, then to Blackpool in the West onto Lands End in the South and then head back home to Sutton on Sea.

Alan and his wife Tina have commended the staff at the hospital and said “we were comforted in the knowledge the hospital staff were excellent. As far as we are concerned they are all heroes.” It is obvious how important this charity is to Mr Pratt and his wife. Alan will be riding his motorbike around the UK and is asking for sponsorship or donations to contribute to his total money raised. He asks “anything that would help me ride a notoriously uncomfortable motorbike for almost 2000 miles would be greatly appreciated.”
