A barn owl has been discovered sharing a nest with two kestrels in Boston, Lincolnshire. Although this may seem unusual, the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds has said that they have seen an increase in the number of birds sharing their homes with different species. This particular arrangement seems to be working well, with the owl hunting at night, while the kestrels sleep and hunt during the day. However, Richard James from the RSPB has said that, “If birds are sharing, both species would appreciate another box.” The charity is also advising homeowners to clean out their nest boxes and put up new ones before the spring, when birds being house-hunting.
