Joanne Lefson rescued a dog from a South African kennel five years ago. Ever since the adoption Joanne has vowed to help other dogs in need of help and rescue. In May 2009 the duo set off on a round the world trip in the hope of raising the awareness of rescuing stray dogs on the streets. Joanne sold her house along with all her other possessions to raise the £250,000 needed to fund the once in a lifetime trip. On her travels Joanne handed out 15,000 dog leads (kindly donated by the parcel company UPS) to charities and rehoming kennels.
Oscar and Joanne visited five continents where they travelled to 29 different countries. They took memorable pictures at well known tourist hot spots such as the Eiffel Tower, Taj Mahal, Great Wall of China and the Egyptian pyramids to name but a few. In May, the couple visited South Africa, Botswana, Nambia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Kenya and Egypt. In June they went to Greece, Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Croatia and Italy. In July the dup went to Switzerland, France and Russia. In August they travelled India and in September they visited Thailand. In October they ventured to Cambodia, Malaysia and China. In October and November they travelled to USA (California, New York, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Utah and Florida). In November they ventured south and went to Puerto Rico, Costa Rica and Peru. In November and December the duo went to Argentina and finally they ended their travels in December in Brazil.
Joanne most probably would have been conscious of looking after Oscar’s health and wellbeing whilst she was travelling around the world. Pet travel insurance would have been a reassurance to her should anything go wrong hence not leaving her out of pocket. E&L pet travel insurance is available at www.eandl.co.uk/pet-travel. Cover is available for quarantine fees, holiday cancellation, accommodation, theft or straying and public liability included as standard. E&L pet travel insurance policies cover vet fees up to £2,500 due to illness or injury starting whilst on holiday or in quarantine. For more information please visit www.eandl.co.uk/pet-travel.
