The Fishguard International Music Festival celebrated its 40th anniversary this year, with one of the highlights coming from Karl Jenkins, when he conducted his own new violin concerto. Karl Jenkins, one of Wales’ most famous contemporary composers wanted to conduct his new work to support this festival, which feared it might close two years ago.

Originally the festival, which is held in Pembrokeshire every year, wanted Jenkins to do a concert of all his music, but he didn’t think this was practical and so decided to do Palladio and the Violin concerto. The violin concerto, commissioned by a Kazak businessman who is a patron of the arts, has been performed in New York and Mumbai, but had its UK premiere during the festival.
