- MOT tests could be every two years, just like in Europe

Current UK rules state that all new cars must have their first MOT test when three years old, then should be tested annually. However, a new proposal is being considered to bring our testing frequency in line with Europe, which means MOT testing would be required only every two years and new cars would not due their first MOT test until 4 years old. The Minister for road safety said: ‘The MoT plays and important role in making sure vehicles are road worthy and should strike the right balance between vehicle safety and the burden imposed on motorists. We intend to undertake a review of the MoT testing regime but have not made a decision about any change to the system.’Would you welcome these changes to the MOT testing in the UK if they were to alter the frequency?
