Sarah Sear, a 63 year old pensioner from Worthing, West Sussex is obviously distraught as her pet cat is currently missing. As an aid to try and help her locate the missing cat she put up posters around her local area to make people aware to look out for the cat. The council has since seen the posters and called Sarah Sear and ordered her to remove the posters or she would be fined £75 for flyposting. She had stuck posters on lampposts, phone boxes and trees nearby her home. She has been disturbed by the phone call and has since removed many of the posters, therefore reducing the chances of finding her beloved cat. She commented “I was absolutely flabbergasted. At first, I thought it was a joke. I was absolutely beside myself as he was making me feel as though I had done something really terrible. I cannot understand why there was absolutely no sympathy from the man that called. Should missing pet posters really be classed as flyposting?”
Worthing Borough Council spokesperson has responded saying “The council has every sympathy for the lady and understands that she is obviously distressed. Our employee wasn’t seeking to be a ‘jobsworth’ but just to ask
her to reduce the number of posters she has displayed in the area.”
