- Largest Mass Wedding in 10 years

20,000 couples got married in a mass ceremony in Asan in South Seoul. The couples all wore exactly the same wedding attire with brides wearing white veils and wedding dresses or their national dress and the grooms wore black suits with red ties and white scarves wrapped around their necks.
The ‘blessing ceremony’ was held by the Unification Church. It was officiated by 89 year old Reverend Sun Myung Moon. Whilst 20,000 people crammed into the Sun Moon University campus a further 20,000 people joined a simultaneous ceremonies in the US Brazil and Venezuela. Some of the brides and grooms only met recently however some other couples were renewing their vows.
During the wedding ceremony, the Reverend sprinkled holy water over the crowd and then the couples exchanged their rings. The couples all then did a loud cheer of ‘hurrah!’ before showering each other in white confetti. Moon said ” I pray that you become good husbands and wives, men and women who can represent the world’s six billion humankind.” One groom, Lee-Dong-seok a 32 year old from South Korea married Japanese Fumi Oshima said “I think my wife if the most beautiful bride here.”
