A Golden Retriever called Angel saved the youngster in an encounter outside the boy’s home in western Canada. Austin Forman had gone to collect firewood from outside his home which is about 150 miles north-east of Vancouver. The mountain lion pounced on the young boy and attacked him. Angel then jumped to his rescue and attacked the big cat. Austin ran into his house to tell his mother and announced “A cougar is eating Angel!” Mrs Foreman asked Austin to repeat himself because she thought she was imagining what he was saying to her. She said “to feel so helpless, I knew I couldn’t do anything”. She called the police who attended the scene and shot the Cougar. Austin said of his ordeal “I was really scared. At first, I didn’t know it was a cougar. I thought it was another dog. As soon as it went underneath the light, I saw that it was a cougar. I knew at that moment I had to go inside.” Angel is recovering at a local vets as she has several puncture wounds around her neck and head. When Angel was frolicking in the snow last week, the family called the dog a ‘snow angel’, they have now nicknamed Angel their ‘guardian angel’.
