Fire-fighters have issued a warning to caravan owners, to ensure their safety and make sure that they apply the same fire
safety measures to their caravan as their homes. Caravans are confined spaces and often, the interior is essentially wooden based and dry – not ideal if a flame were to erupt. Although all interior’s within a caravan follow strict regulations from government bodies, manufacturers cannot be held responsible for additional soft furnishings brought into the dwelling.
The advice comes after a woman in Nottingham died in her caravan during March 2009.
Craig Dooley, a fire station manager, highlighted that the risk of fire in a caravan can sometimes be greater than in a permanent home. He said “People install smoke alarms in their homes but not in their caravan, yet a caravan fire can be just as devastating…It is vital to have a smoke alarm fitted – and to make sure you test it regularly.”
