A Scottish couple who had given up hope of ever finding their beloved cat, were shocked and ecstatic to be reunited with the pet. Steven and Laura Buick, owners of Rocco were devastated when the cat disappeared 3 weeks ago from their home in Edinburgh.
After hours spend searching the couple came to the sad conclusion that they may never see Rocco again, fearing the worst had happened. However, staff at the Tebay service station found him and took him to a nearby animal rescue centre in Grayrigg. Rocco’s collar had fallen off but he had been micro-chipped, therefore allowing his owners to be identified.
Rocco took an incredible 150 mile journey, which is a long way to travel for such a little animal. Theories have been considered such as his boarding a lorry. Staff at the animal rescue centre were overwhelmed as to how far Rocco had travelled and one worker Rebecca Walker stated “to have come this far is just really crazy”.
Technology really did help bring the cat and owners back together on this occasion, and the work that insurers are putting in to link with online databases of missing pets is imperative. The animal rescue centre were able to use Animal Search UK to view up to date contact details of Mr and Mrs Buick, speeding up the process of reuniting.
