A Facebook campaign may have helped save one youngster from having to claim on his cycle insurance after he was reunited with his stolen bike.
Teenager Joe Stevens launched an internet campaign in the hope of tracing his white Carrera bicycle that was taken from outside the Mountbatten Centre, the Portsmouth News reports.
Just one day after reporting the theft to police and posting images of the two-wheeler on the social network site, a friend got in touch to say they had purchased the bike for £50.
The cycle was returned to the youngster and local officers were informed of the sale and given a description of the seller.
Speaking to the paper, Joe said: "I was so sad when I found out that my bike was gone because it took me a long time to save up for it."
Elsewhere, the Enfield Independent recently urged cyclists to take advantage of a free anti-theft event on Saturday (February 4th) being offered by police from the local safer transport team.
