Wedding insurance customers may be interested to hear Kate Middleton's bridal gown is in the running for a prestigious award.

It has been nominated in the fifth annual Designs of the Year Awards' fashion category.

The dress was the creation of Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen and was painstakingly hand sewn by members of the Royal School of Needlework in Hampton Court.

All eyes were on the gown when Ms Middleton stepped out of her bridal car and entered Westminster Abbey on April 29th last year.

The 30-year-old wore a long-sleeved lace dress that featured a deep v-neck and full skirt, which became a key attraction at Buckingham Palace when it was put on display last summer.

As well as the wedding gown, the Olympic torch has been nominated for an award, with results to be announced on April 24th.

In the meantime, all the pieces in the running can be viewed at a special exhibition at the Design Museum from February 8th.
