A cyclist who claims to have been misdiagnosed after sustaining injuries in a biking accident may have had to claim on his cycle insurance.

Martin Perzylo explained in an interview with the North-West Evening Mail how he was told the pain in his chest after falling over his handlebars was most likely caused by being "winded".

"At first they told me nothing was wrong, that I could go home with painkillers. I kept complaining because I could feel my bones in bits in my body," the 42-year-old alleged.

He claimed doctors at Furness General Hospital only realised he had in fact sustained three broken ribs and a punctured lung when a second x-ray was carried out.

Mr Perzylo had to undergo emergency treatment on his collapsed lung in order to regulate his breathing and then spent ten days in the hospital before being allowed home.

Furness General Hospital has 369 beds and features an emergency department, oncology unit, critical care unit, outpatient services and a maternity and special care baby unit.
