- Cyclist admits false theft claim

A man who attempted to make a false cycle insurance claim after stating he had his bike stolen at knifepoint has been spared jail.
The Peterborough Evening Telegraph reports how James Curry of Oxclose, Bretton, told officers he was pushing his two-wheeler in the early hours of the morning when he was attacked from behind.
He claimed a hooded assailant brandished a knife and demanded the bike before cycling away.
However, the 26-year-old has since admitted he fabricated the claim as he left the £400 mode of transport at someone's house and believed he would never get it back.
Speaking to the news source, Malcolm Tarling from the Association of British Insurers said: "Fraud is a major problem for insurers. It's a major problem from customers. Honest customers pay the price for fraud through higher premiums."
The news comes after the Wakefield Express recently reported how local police have released CCTV images of two men they want to speak to regarding bicycle thefts in the region.
