- Cycling ‘is a great way to teach road safety’

Life Cycle UK has suggested that riding a bike can have a number of physical and mental benefits for young children, helping them develop various skills at an early age.
Picking up cycle insurance for kids and setting them off on a bicycle can help children get more active while still keeping them relatively safe from any medical problems, the charity's spokesperson explained.
This is because it is a low-impact form of exercise and does not over-stress growing joints and muscles, they added.
"Cycling to school can be a great way for children to develop their road confidence and safety awareness," the spokesperson suggested, advising parents to accompany their kids on the journey and ensure they have some experience before letting them use their bike on the road.
A national report from Sustrans recently revealed that some 40 million more bike journeys were made in 2011 than in the previous year, a record increase of 18 per cent.
