Boris Johnson is one famous face who may have a camping insurance policy, as he has revealed his passion for sleeping outdoors.

The mayor of London described in a blog post how he has "camped everywhere" and claimed "absolutely nothing" beats the pastime.

He explained how he has slept under the stars in the Serengeti, on the beaches of California and closer to home on Salisbury Plain.

Mr Johnson's comments follow his appeal for adults to volunteer for the Team London initiative, which aims to help promote activities such as camping among Britain's youngsters.

"There are thousands of young people who are learning to share my enthusiasm and who are being taught the joys of camping and other outdoor adventures," the mayor stated.

Prior to his election to mayor of London in May 2008, Johnson held the position of MP for Henley-on-Thames for seven years from June 2001 to May 2008.
