A scout group may have been forced to claim on their camping insurance after a fire destroyed their equipment.

According to the Bristol Evening Post, firefighters have concluded the blaze was started deliberately by arsonists.

Crews were called to Windwhistle Lane in Uphill near Weston-super-Mare at 01:30 GMT yesterday (December 1st).

A portable building was found to be on fire and although the inferno was put out the venue and all of the camping equipment stored inside was ruined.

The location is where the 1st Uphill Scouts group is based and police have been called in to investigate the incident as fire experts reported the blaze as arson.

Elsewhere, the Leatherhead Advertiser recently reported how officers in Surrey have stepped up patrols following a spate of similar attacks at farms and remote locations.

Derelict buildings and barns have been targeted, while heating oil, scrap metal and horse-riding equipment has been stolen.
