Instrument insurance may be needed by the new owner of a rare French horn that is to go on sale at an auction later this month.

The piece was discovered in a Norwich loft and is believed to have belonged to a member of Adolf Hitler’s bodyguard regiment, the Eastern Daily Press reports.

Antiques auctioneer Andrew Bullock described how the instrument is in good working order and has a guide price of £500 to £600.

He added that the horn is a rare discovery, stating: “I can’t find any records of a sale of a German military musical instrument, either by ourselves or any other auction house.”

The nickel-plated item is engraved with the name of the bodyguard regiment and is thought to have been used at ceremonial events such as Nazi rallies and the 1936 Olympics.

Elsewhere, a letter typed and signed by Hitler asking for time off from his job so he could fight for presidency of the Reich in 1932 is set to go on sale.
