The War Horse Puppets has become a stars of the west end stage. This week one of the puppets left the boards for an open air outing, meeting the Household Cavalry in Hyde Park.

Despite his mechanical make up and being operated by two men, the horses look strangley realistic and even appear to convey emotions.

The realistic appearances of the horses are in part down to the way the puppets are handled.

This is where the Household Cavalry can take some of the acclaim.
The Cavalry helped to train the actors to handle the Horses. This week’s open air display showed just how good a job the soldiers had done – so realistic was the puppet that onlookers were no doubt having to look twice to realise the mechanical working at the heart of the display.
