Amanda Redman Marries love of her life

Amanda Redman, the star of New Tricks, married her long time love this weekend.

The 53-year-old actress tied the knot to her 38-year-old fiancé Damian Schnabel surrounded by family and friends in the grounds of 13th Century Maunsel House in Somerset.

The couple first meet in 1999 and although they split up in 2003 they rekindled their love in 2006 and Amanda has referred to Damian as the “love of her life” and the person who has restored her faith in love.

Leading up to the big day Amanda spoke of one of her biggest worries – that they would run out of alcohol supplies.

The Daily Mail reports Amanda saying: “We are having a lot of booze and my horror would be to run out.
“We always hold parties at our house and we want people to have fun. I would be horrified”.

It is not clear whether Amanda’s fears came true or not. However, the couple looked blissfully happy as they posed for photographs and the weather was on their side with conditions such that the reception could take place in a roofed pergola in the house’s grounds.

In attendance were a number of famous faced friends including: Dennis Waterman, Alun Armstrong and James Bolam, as well as Lynda Bellingham, Sheila Hancock and Lisa Faulkner. Meanwhile British actor Ray Winstone gave a reading during the ceremony.

Skelwith Fold Caravan site in Ambleside recently underwent intense scrutiny from researches at Lancaster University to help prove that caravanning is one of the ‘greenest’ holiday pursuits in the UK.

In an effort to calculate the parks true carbon footprint the researches went to great lengths to measure the Parks output of greenhouse gasses.

Not only did they measure the impact of the journeys made to the park by individual holiday makers, they also took into account the costs to the environment caused by the parks grass cutters and coffee-making machines. Even the T-shirts supplied to staff came under scrutiny!

After putting the park under the microscope the study found that, Skelwith Fold had a very low carbon footprint with both the park and its guest having relativity low impact on the environment.

This is not the first time that Skelwith Fold has been making the headlines in the caravanning world. Earlier this year it was awarded the Holiday Park of the Year in 2010 by Cumbrian Tourism with its commitment to conservation and sustainability being highlighted by the judges.

Henry Wild from the park believes that many other parks have similar energy usage patterns to Skelwith fold. Speaking about the study, he said:

“This is, I believe, the first time that our industry has been put under this type of environmental scrutiny – and the message appears to be that green tourism is definitely caravan-shaped,”

Mary King shines at Burghley Horse Trials

Mary King is in the lead after the first day of dressage at the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials. Mary is on a score of 44.8, 2pen ahead of William Fox-Pitt, even though she made a slight mistake at the end of the test: ‘I missed a movement out and carried on to the finish and Marilyn Payne got out of the hut and told me I’d missed the serpentine’, said Mary. ‘I did that then re-rode the last changes and final centreline and he [Apache Sauce] did them better than the first time, so maybe it worked to my advantage.’

New passports released for caravanners

The Home Office have just released a new and improved passport for overseas caravanners.

The new document features iconic images from all over the UK including destinations such as the Gower Peninsula and Giant’s Causeway.

Each passport also comes with a range of enhanced security features which includes a second image of the passport holder, holograms and an invisible chip.

Chief Executive of the Identity and Passport Service, Sarah Rapson noted improve passport security for many Uk travellers.

She said, “The new design is part of our strategy to stay ahead of criminals who look fraudulently alter or copy passports.”

Home Office statistics demonstrate that 60,000 British tourists’ passports were lost or stolen abroad between April 2009 and April 2010.

Yorkshire’s knitted wedding dresses

A Todmorden knitwear company has launched an entire bridal collection made of wool.

Co-owner and knitted dress designer Nicola Sherlock-Windle came up with the idea after getting married last year.

Nicola explains they are not for everyone: “You have to be a certain type of person who wants something unusual and not the norm.”

The company based in Todmorden has already received a great deal of interest in this totally unique style wedding dress.

Lights, Camera, Action! – 24 year old claims top action photography prize

24 year old Chris Buck, from America, has beaten off though competition to win Red Bull’s Illume photography competition. He even did it with a second hand camera that he bought when he first became interested in photography 5 years ago.

The worldwide competition aimed to find the world’s best sports action shots in BMX, surfing, skateboarding, B.A.S.E jumping, climbing, motor and winter sports.

The winning entry showed a surfer riding golden coloured waves off the west cost of Chile.

Having spent days in the pouring rain the Chilean weather and Pacific Ocean finally came together to produce a dream swell for the 24 year old.

Chris described how the perfect moment produced the perfect shot in the Daily Mail

“We woke up the morning after the rains to howling offshore winds, swell was pulsing and the conditions were as good as they get.’

“The shore break was so big, and the offshores’ plumes so high, that I was missing most of the best waves, but finally a set came through. The light, the wind, and the swell were perfect. It was as if everything in nature fell into perfect harmony for this single moment. As Peter Mendia eased into this wave, the backwash hit, sending a golden shower of water 10-feet above his head, and sending him down the line of another 20-second barrel”

Chris’s prize is a £25,000 collection of camera gear – which will be sure to help him produce even more spectacular shots.

The 50 winning category images will join Chris’ shot on display in the court of Trinity College, Dublin.

Pop star Britney Spears is reportedly planning to tie the knot for the third time.
Britney is said to marry her boyfriend and former agent Jason Trawick. The pop star was previously married to Jason Alexander and Kevin Federline (both nuptials in 2004).
A source expressed: ‘They’ve decided to have a small, intimate ceremony, not a big media circus. They’d like to say ‘I do’ by the end of the year’. We’ll have to watch this space as Britney has always surprised us in the past.

Wader numbers increase in Northern Ireland

According to the RSPB Northern Ireland, the number of the wading birds has increased this year on Lower Lough Erne in Fermanagh. Populations grew due to the dedicated conservation work in the area. The numbers of Lapwing, Redshank, Common Snipe and Curlew grew according to a survey of this year’s breeding season and even the rare Dunlin attempted to breed for the first time since 2003. ‘The RSPB works very hard to improve the fortunes of threatened birds,’ said Dr James Robinson, Director of RSPB NI. ‘On the islands that we manage as nature reserves on Lower Lough Erne, the numbers of breeding wading birds have increased in recent years. When we get results like these, it demonstrates our success in helping Northern Ireland’s special birds.’
