- Veteran army horse retires

A veteran horse who has spent the last six years taking part in ceremonies for the Light Cavalry Honourable Artillery Company has retired, equine insurance customers might be interested to learn.
Denzil started his career with the Kings Troop Royal Horse Artillery, before moving onto the Royal Army Veterinary Corps, then the Royal Engineers Saddle Club and finally the Light Cavalry Honourable Artillery Company.
Caroline Quested, stable manager, told BBC News: “He’s probably the most ridden horse we have. He was really good with beginners as he was very patient.”
Denzil now resides at the Home of Rest for Horses in Speen, Buckinghamshire, because of the arthritis that forced his retirement.
The horse – who stands at 17.2 hands high – was in the news three years ago when he chewed a fire alarm box in the early hours of the morning.
Many horse insurance customers gather in Windsor each year to take part in the Royal Windsor Horse Show, which features more than 3,000 equines in over 250 different classes.
